The Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences (CJNS) is:
- the official publication of the four member societies of the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation:

- Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN).
- a high quality Canadian Medical Journal inviting authors to share clinical and basic neuroscience research occurring in Canada and abroad.
- widely circulated internationally to institutions and individual subscribers in Canada, the United States of America, South America, Asia and Africa .
- recognized as a peer-reviewed medical journal.
- published in January, March, May, July, September, and November.
The Editor-in-Chief and the Board encourage authors to send the final version of their work to the Journal for possible publication. All submissions received by the CJNS undergo detailed and careful peer-reviewed scrutiny.
The CJNS’s combined approach to neurology, neurosurgery, clinical neurophysiology and pediatric neurology offers authors a significant advantage over other journals that may be available to them for publication.
The goal of the CJNS is to work collaboratively with authors to publish Manuscripts in a timely manner. Manuscripts are to be published within 6 months of receiving final revisions from the author.
The Journal is published in January, March, May, July, September, and November.

Review Process
The goal of the CJNS is to work collaboratively with authors to publish Manuscripts in a timely manner.
Manuscripts are to be published within 6 months of receiving final revisions from the author.

Editor-in-Chief Reviews
Specifically Looking For:
- Professionally Presented Manuscript
(proper spelling, grammar, clarity, readability, etc.)- Relevance to CJNS Subscribers
- Overall First Impressions (rating) of Manuscript. May include initial decision to reject/select associate editor.
- If conditionally approved for review Manuscript goes to Associate Editor
Associate Editor Reviews
Specifically Looking for:
- Associate Editor Review Checklist Applies. May include initial decision to reject/select associate editor.
- If approved for formal review Manuscript goes to up to 3 Reviewers for peer review, dependent on Manuscript Category as per Author Specific Manuscript Specifications.

PubMED - Posting of CJNS Issues and Supplements
CJNS Issues and Supplements
Once a CJNS Issue and/or Supplement is posted within the CJNS online Journal, notification is provided to PubMED through Metapress. This notification may take upto one week from a Journal Issue or Supplement being uploaded to the CJSN online Journal. Upon receipt of notification, PubMED may take upto 72 hours to post Journal Issues online.
As PubMED is an organization outside of the CJNS, we do not have influence on how and when they post articles within their database. Should you have concerns, please contact the contact NLM Customer Service directly at custserv@nlm.nih.gov.
CJNS Supplements
Upon notification of supplements being posted on the CJNS online Journal, the following process occurs at PubMED:
- All supplements are tentatively hidden after they have been loaded and it is discerned whether the supplement conflicts with the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors policies. Visit http://www.icmje.org/#conflicts for more information.
- After supplements have been reviewed and confirmed with proper conflict of interest disclosures, the citations will be "unhidden" and be available again in PubMed.
- Supplements published in 2008 and later, it will be required that author disclosure statements appear within the paginated text of the article.
- Refer to the NLM Fact Sheet regarding Conflict of Interest Disclosure and Journal Supplements in MEDLINE for detailed information: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/factsheets/supplements.html
- As this is an involved review process PubMED is unable to provide an exact timeline, though this process can take several months.
CIHR Grant Submissions and Knowledge Translation
(Applies to Original Articles Only)The CJNS recognizes the importance of research conducted by Canadian Researchers utilizing CIHR Grants and the importance of Knowledge Translation as part of the CIHR Grant Submissions.
The CJNS recognizes the importance of research conducted by Canadian Researchers utilizing CIHR Grants and the importance of Knowledge Translation as part of the CIHR Grant Submissions.
The CJNS will allow CIHR researchers/ authors to upload an article within the open access PubMed Central Canada (PMC Canada) repository, provided a one time Open Access Publishing Fee is paid to the CJNS.
Please note:
- Articles published to the PMC Canada repository are also shared with the U.S. and UK PMC repositories.
- CIHR has provision for an Open Access Publishing Fee within the budget section of the application process.
- It is the author/ researchers responsibility to ensure they have permission to post closed-access articles within an open-access repository.
The CJNS Open Access Publishing Fee covers:
- Immediate Open Access of one article from time of publication within CJNS
(instead of 5 years as of the 2010 policy)- Permission to post the one article within the PMC repository.
- CJNS retains the ownership of all article contents.
